For over 5 years, we have been involved in supporting and training pastors/leaders for theological training. It has been so exciting. It began with a simple question in my living room, “Would you help us train pastors in El Salvador?” Our church joined forces with FBC, Millersville, and Miner Baptist Church in Sikeston and we began together working with pastors/leaders. We would have more than 20 come to our bi-annual retreats. They were sweet times.
In 2014, we launched a five-year initiative to train 66 pastors/leaders in El Salvador. Eight or more pastors have committed in Missouri (and we expect more) to go and teach using BTCP material. You can read more about the BTCP curriculum here:
Pastors from across Southeast Missouri recently gathered for a Pupusa party at our church to dream about building on this first year and scheduling the next 4 years of trips. It was a great time of fellowship and commitment!
The 66 pastors/leaders in El Salvador who have signed up for training will gather several times each year in three locations. A group of teachers from Missouri are going in October to teach the Old Testament. I will be going in November to teach, “Bible Study Methods and Rules of Interpretation.”
Next year, Lord willing, we will take 3 trips as a group…each trip requiring 6 instructors. In 2015, we will also equip El Salvadodians to be trainers. In 2016-2018, we anticipate making 4 trips each year as a group and will have El Salvadorians teaching alongside Missourians. When each track has finished the curriculum, we will turn the training over to the leaders of El Salvador. We are excited about the plan the Lord has given us!
Lord willing, I hope to personally make 2 or more trips each year. I’ve made myself available for November 2014, February and Fall of 2015. Each trip is approximately $1200.
Please join us in praying for this 5-year adventure of training pastors and leaders in El Salvador.
If you would like to make contributions to this Kingdom effort, you can make checks out to “Fruitland Community Church” and mail them to 6040 Hwy 61 North, Jackson, MO 63755. Please indicate “ES BTCP Training” on the memo of your check. Or you can make contributions to the Cape Girardeau Baptist Association, 5103 Old Cape Rd E, Jackson, MO 63755. Again, put “ES BTCP Training” on the memo of your check.
I will share updates on this blog as the group travels and makes reports.
For the Kingdom!
